The Speakership of the Limpopo Legislature

 hosted a Media Briefing providing an update on current developments in the institution; The briefing reflected on the Legislature’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and keeping the people of Limpopo informed on matters of public interest.

The Speaker of the Limpopo Legislature, Hon. Dr Makoma Makhurupetje, today presided over a sitting of the House at the Legislative Chamber in Lebowakgomo

 where Members considered a range of important reports and legislative matters aimed at strengthening governance, accountability, and service delivery across the province. Proceedings commenced with the tabling of several statutory and performance reports. Acting Leader of Government Business, Hon. Maureen Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, presented the 2025/26 Fourth Quarter Performance Reports for provincial departments and public entities. Deputy Speaker Hon. Tebogo Mamorobela also tabled the Limpopo Legislature’s Fourth Quarter Performance Report for the same financial year. MEC for Provincial Treasury, Hon. Elias Mahoai, acting on behalf of the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Hon. Basikopo Makamu, tabled the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) Section 131 Report. The report outlined measures implemented by municipalities to address matters raised by the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) during the 2024/25 local government audit cycle. Hon. Mahoai further tabled the Consolidated Section 71 Report and the State of Municipalities Report for the quarter ending 31 March 2026. These reports provided Members with a comprehensive overview of municipal financial performance, governance challenges, and service delivery progress across Limpopo. A major highlight of the sitting was the Second Reading Debate on the Limpopo Appropriation Bill, 2026. Following extensive deliberations, the House approved the Budget Votes and Schedule of the Appropriation Bill, clearing the way for the implementation of the provincial government’s programmes and strategic priorities during the 2026/27 financial year. The Legislature also considered and adopted a number of reports on departmental Annual Performance Plans (APPs) and Budgets for the 2026/27 financial year. The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, chaired by Hon. Constance Kupa-Mabuza, presented its report on the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s APP and Budget. The report was adopted, with MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Nakedi Kekana, responding to issues raised by Members during the debate. The House similarly adopted the report of the Portfolio Committee on Social Development, presented by Chairperson Hon. Simon Mathe, on the Department of Social Development’s APP and Budget. MEC for Social Development, Hon. Florence Radzilani, provided the department’s response and outlined key priorities for the financial year ahead. The report of the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, presented by Hon. Falaza Mdaka, was also adopted following discussions on the department’s APP and Budget. MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Hon. Jerry Maseko, responded to Members’ observations and recommendations. In addition, the Portfolio Committee on Provincial Treasury, led by Chairperson Hon. Maseko Solomon Pheedi, tabled its report on the Department of Provincial Treasury’s APP and Budget. The House adopted the report, with MEC Elias Mahoai addressing matters raised during the debate. In further business, Chief Whip Hon. Essob Mokgonyana moved a Motion for the Ratification of the Conferral of the Final Mandate to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on the Division of Revenue Bill, which was considered by the House. Members also considered motions relating to the ratification of the appointment of Special Delegates who attended previous NCOP plenaries, as well as the appointment of Special Delegates who will represent Limpopo in forthcoming NCOP sittings. The proceedings underscored the Limpopo Legislature’s constitutional oversight responsibility and its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery through rigorous scrutiny of departmental plans, budgets, and municipal governance reports.

The Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance , Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs

 led by the Acting Chairperson Hon. Choris Phokane met earlier today 19 June 2026 , for Consideration and adoption of the 2026/2027 Annual Performance Plan (APP) and Budget Reports.

The Legislature’s joint committees on Transport and Community Safety and Public Works, Roads & Infrastructure earlier received progress reports on construction of Thohoyandou Intermodal Facility, from Gateway Airports Authority Limited (GAAL), Independent Development Trust (IDT), and Thulamela Local Municipality prior to their inspection in-loco of the facility. Members during their visit were met by progress made at the facility since the recent pre- oversight made by the committee support staff at the facility, they emphasised that through effective monitoring and evaluation, the project will meet its  set completion time and service local communities, people of the province and beyond.

 together with the Secretary to the Legislature, Dr Maake MT today are in attendance to the 19th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth, Africa Region plenary session whereby the members of CSPOC deliberates on the role of Parliament on harnessing the potential of the youth of Africa for sustainable development, and also to discuss leveraging technology and digital tools for effective sustainable development.

Wednesday, 17th June 2026, Members  of the joint portfolio committees on Transport and Community Safety led by Chairperson, Hon. Lebea Kedibone

 and the portfolio committee on Public Works and Infrastructure led by acting Chairperson, Hon. Phokane MJ met earlier this evening for briefing by Transport Committee Researcher for progress analysis on the Thohoyandou Intermodal Facility and PR Mphephu Airport respectively prior to their meeting with the department the next morning, and conducting site visits.

The Limpopo Legislature's Portfolio Committee on Sport , Arts and Culture led by the Chairperson Hon. Falaza Mdaka , today 17th June 2026

 conducted an oversight visit to department-funded arts centres in the Capricorn District .The Committee began its visit at the Limpopo Provincial Theatre,  where Members noted satisfactory progress. The delegation later visited the Mmotong Youth Community , Dikoting Centre for the Elderly and Youth Generation arts centres in Mmotong which offers the programmes in traditional dance , sewing and knitting , beadwork , poetry. Performing arts , story telling and comedy. The visits formed part of the Committee’s oversight role to assess the impact of government-funded arts and cultural programmes in local communities.

Today, Hon. MEC Tony Rachoene and his executive management team presented their 2026/2027

 Annual Performance Plan and Budget (APP & Budget) for the Department of Public Works, Roads & Infrastructure and Roads Agency Limpopo. The  chairperson of the committee Hon. Khathutshelo Netshifhefhe, presided over the session at the parliamentary village in Polokwane.

The Standing Committee on Quality of Life and Status of Women, Youth and People Living with Disabilities, led by Acting Chairperson Hon. Leswafo Joshua Matlou,

convened a meeting to consider and adopt its 2025/26 Second and Third Quarter Reports, as well as the 2026 Workers’ Parliament Report. The committee further received a comprehensive briefing on the 2026/27 Annual Performance Plan (APP) and Budget for Special Programmes from the Office of the Premier. The delegation was led by the Premier of Limpopo, Hon. Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, who outlined the department’s strategic priorities, planned interventions and budget allocations aimed at promoting the empowerment and inclusion of women, youth and persons with disabilities across the province.

The Secretary to the Limpopo Legislature, Dr. Maake M.T has today attended the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) Limpopo 2026 Local Government Elections Campaign launch at Protea Hotel Polokwane Ranch Resort

The launch marks the beginning of a  Province- wide voter education, registration, and public awareness campaign ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled for  early November 2026, the Commission stated that the aim of the campaign is to encourage citizens participation, fair, free, and credible elections.

Today the Portfolio Committee  at Parliamentary Village in the City of Polokwane, to receive a briefing on the implementation of committee resolutions and the 2026/27 Annual Performance Plan (APP) and budget.

 are today attending the Official Opening of the Limpopo House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders at the Mapela Traditional Council in Mapela Village, Waterberg District. The Honourable Premier of Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, delivered the keynote address joined by Members of the Executive Council, outlining government achievements and priorities for the 2025/26 financial year. The Limpopo House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders is established in terms of the Limpopo Houses of Traditional Leaders Act, 2019 (Act No. 3 of 2019), and serves to advise government on matters relating to customs, traditions, culture, and related issues. As this ceremony is a significant legislative and ceremonial occasion aligned with Section 12 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, the presence of the Mace is of particular importance, symbolise.
